The Spanish apartment
6 el Sur, calle Golf del Candado 36, el Palo, Malaga, 29018, Spain
This was as at late October 2005 We tooka a before piture of this corner when it looked horrible! Not quite finished, the shower unit will be replaced and the enclosuer hasn't arrived yet We're still waiting for the basin. We always wondered what these lumps were, now they're cupboards The washing machine will go in here. The threshold will be replaced and the top step tiled with the same tiles as inside We will repaint the ironwork. The metal has totally rusted away, the gate has fallen off! This area still needs some work on it. The bunkers on the left will be removed and the bar-b-q retained. The inset tiles are quite an expensive touch that lifts the look of the whole kitchen. These are the wall lights in the lounge The main light in the lounge can be bent to any shape one wants.
The project has over-run its schedule by about 100%, but the original estimate wasn't properly "Spain-i-fied". It didn't take the mañana attitude into account, the country mostly shuts down over summer. This year it got up to 52 degrees centigrade. Most if not all the apartments have them. Noone has so far offered any reasonable excuse for their existance. In many of the other apartments the owners have punched through to find they are just hollow, so we have done the same. The new cupboards, like all the other cupboards in the kitchen and wardrobes etc in the bedrooms, not to mention the rooms themselves are all still waiting for their new doors. These will be lockable so we can keep things not available to the rental holidaymakers. It used to be in the bathroom, but when we decided what to do with this cupboard, which used to be the larder, we decided to move the washing machine out of the bathroom and into here. The old threshold stone was badly cracked and as we are replacing the front door we want to make a good job of it and replace the threshold as well. The top step area just outside the front door was damages slightly during the building work and so it will have to be retiled using the same floortiles as we have inside the apartment. New metal will be used to replace the rusted away stuff.
