Alex and Christina's honey moon
Russia - Siberia - The Altay

Day 8:
We returned on our horses to the Mul’ta Settlement through the rain. Alexei went
ahead to arrange for someone to meet us with a van. It was very slippery for the
horses while we went along the rocky shore of the lake. We had to dismount at
one point and lead our horses down a steep part of the path that would have been
too dangerous to ride down. We went so slowly that our car came to find us along
the track instead of meeting us where we should have returned the horses. We put
all our bags into the van and the horses went home without us. Then we drove
back to the hotel in Ust’-Koksa. We were really pleased to get back to a
flushing toilet. This was farewell to Alexei and Tatiana and time to meet our
guide for the remainder of our tour, Nikolai, and the new cook, Elena. Elena
cooked our meal in the hotel that evening and she helped Nikolai sing a song for
Rebecca. Instead of Happy Birthday, they sang a song about a blue helicopter
that brought gifts to well behaved children on their birthdays. The hotel was
one half of someone’s house, they lived in one side and the guests came and
stayed in the other. It struck us later that this was very much like the Old
Believers house that we had visited in Verkhny Uimon and must have been very
traditional for the region.
