Alex and Christina's honey moon

Day 6: Rebecca was
feeling better so she decided to try to accompany everyone on the hike to the
system of Poperechnye Lakes. As the going became increasingly difficult and
our progress slowed we decided that it would be better for her to rest her
knee a bit more before trying such a difficult hike, so she and Mummy returned
to the campsite while everyone else went with Tatiana to see the turquoise
water and rocky shore line of the beautiful lake system. We had to climb up
the rocks beside a waterfall and cross huge scree slopes, picking our way
carefully over the rocks and boulders. The path went through bogs, over tree
roots and was frequently very steep.
Near the first of the Poperechnye Lakes on
30/08/04
It rained
on us as we were finishing our meal and we had to dash for cover. It abated long
enough for the adults to give the vodka a good cuffing. Alex, Christina and the
girls went to bed early, but for Mummy, Daddy, Alexei and Tatiana, the fire
provided a good focal point until the rain came back and they called it a night.
We were a bit warmer over night. The secret was not to wear so much clothing and
leave the insulation up to the sleeping bag.
The tents
were well used, the zips were broken and they leaked a little around where the
guy ropes were connected to the fly sheet on the poles. We slept with our
waterproof coats over our feet.
